July Fishing Report
All I can say about July so far is Wow. We are so lucky to live and fish our local waters in the Eastern Sierra. I have been guiding a lot of days so far this month and have been having more fun on the water than I can remember, and it only seems to be getting better everyday. We are really getting into an absolutely awesome time to fish every creek, river, and stillwater around. Even the high alpine monster golden trout lakes are finally beginning to thaw. I will be doing some serious recon for the big goldens soon and will hopefully have some amazing photos to post. As for our more accessible waters, all are fishing at least well. The East Walker is dropping everyday, and who knows what that place is going to fish like now. Almost all fish in that river have not seen an angler in over a month! Once the flows drop under 500 cfs I will be guiding and fishing up there as much as I possibly can. Hot Creek has been plain stupid. Fishing down on the creek has been staying great from 7 AM until dark. Tricos, caddis, pmd’s, baetis, and some nice yellow sallies have been keeping the fish fat and happy. The Upper Owens has been really good as well. DFG has been stocking there weekly, so a lot of pressure has been taken off of the local natives in the river. Fish have been eating mayfly imitations and caddis really well. Streamer fishing has also been productive in the afternoons. As always, the time to fish is now!! See you on the water
