August Fishing Report
All is good up here in the Eastern Sierras. I haven’t been to any river, creek, or lake that isn’t fishing superb right now. The water is gin clear and the August weeds are still not up thanks to all of the snowmelt this year. I have been guiding nearly every day and hiking to find some really nice backcountry trout on my days off. The guiding has been outstanding. Really great clients and hungry trout have made it a summer to remember already. I have been mostly guiding The San Joaquin, The East Walker and Hot Creek Ranch. The San Joaquin has been really fun lately. The water that is normally thin and a bit beaten up in late August is just now fishable and fishing perfect right now. There have been some amazingly large mayfly hatches midday, as well as midges and some medium size yellow stoneflys. Hot Creek has fished well all month. The tricos are still coming off in good numbers most every morning. If you have not fished tricos in the summer on Hot Creek you really need to experience it soon. Seeing those big trout heads sipping spinners is always exciting. The caddis are still abundant. Emergence happens each day around 3:30 like clock work. The East Walker is fishing good. I guided it today and it fished great. Not many adult insects around in the morning or afternoon, but the evening caddis migration has been solid. Nymphing the riffles and fast runs has been the most productive. I have had a couple fun days with clients lately throwing hoppers in the meadow. As always, right now is the time to be fishing up here!!

Thanks again for the wonderful outing on Hot Creek. It truly was one of the most memorable days of fishing I have ever had. Looking forward to doing another outing in the future.
