November Fishing Report

Another seasonal change is approaching in The Sierras. We can definitely feel the change in the air and see it in the mountains and all of our waters. The aspens are full of color , the mountains are all snow capped, and the fish are trying to get fat for winter. The colder weather brings on some of the best fishing of the year, Beatis Fishing. All of our rivers and streams are popping with this graceful mayfly. I have been guiding a lot on Hot Creek Ranch and the mid morning beatis fishing has been stellar. A double dry rig with an Adams Parachute (20) and a CDC Beatis Emerger (2o) has been down right stupid. Good thing for me that I get more pleasure out of my clients catching fish than catching these pigs myself. The Beatis grab has beeen finishing up about 1 PM, but the hopper and beetle fishing is still awesome. The great dry fly fishing is still amazing on the public section as well. However, the nymphing has been even better on the public. We have been landing some really large fish nymphing small mayfly patterns and midges. The East Walker has been fishing quite good as well. The crowds have been really light and the flows are still pretty high for this time of year. The fishing has been similar to most of the year, the nymphing has been better than the dry fly fishing. With that said, it has still been really fun throwing drys and terrestrials downstream towards Nevada. The Upper owens has been a bit tough with the continued high flows as a lot of water is still being diverted away from full Mono Lake. The streamer fishing is still totally worth doing all day long. I will be fishing and guiding  The Lower Owens quite a bit this month and through out December so some reports on The Amazing Lower O will be coming. Come on up and fish the best dry fly fishing of the year!!!
